Hare Krishna Maha Mantram

What is the significance of Hare Krishna Maha mantra?

Hare Krishna Maha Mantra is one of the easiest mantra which was given to us by Chaitanya Maha Prabhu.  It addresses Lord Krishna 16 times.

In Kali yuga, reciting the name of the Supreme Soul alone can be a solution to all our problems.  Hare Krishna Maha Mantra is the easiest way to recite and chant as many names of God as possible.

I am telling this because to chant this Maha Mantra 108 times - which is called one round - takes only ten minutes.

First chant the Pancha Tatva Maha mantra

Jaya Sri Krishna Chaitanya Prabhu Nityananda
Sri Advaita Gadadhara Sreevasadhi Gaura Bhaktha Vrinda

(This is the main mantra or moola mantra.)

Then repeat

Hare Krishna Maha Mantra lyrics

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

(108 times)

The Hare Krishna Maha mantra addresses Lord Krishna and His energy to reside within our heart.  By chanting Hare Krishna Mahamantra regularly, we can purify our heart.  This will be good for our spiritual as well as material progress.

Chanting 108 times is considered as one round.Chant as many rounds as you can and enjoy inner peace.

Why Krishna is addressed before Rama in Hare Krishna Maha Mantra?

While addressing Krishna first we want to develop Krishna Bhakti and Krishna Prema.  The term Krishna means 'all attractive'.  So we want to attract Krishna and the energy of Krishna to us.  We want to improve our Bhakti or devotion towards Krishna.  So Krishna is addressed first and then Rama.

It can also be recited in various ragas in the form of Krishna Bhajans.

Please don't forget to add your experience after practicing Hare Krishna Mahamantra regularly.

  1. Hi, Thanks for posting about this great mantra. I have just now started chanting the mahamantra seriously and I did not know the pancha tatva maha mantra to be chanted before 108 repetitions. I am doing about 4-6 rounds of 108 mostly early morning.
